Postage Savings Tips
With the new postal rate increases taking effect next week, ForeverStamps.com

Consider going to a metered mail system if you deal in moderate to high volume direct mail. You can obtain a service contract and postage meter authorized by the USPS which imprints an image directly on your envelope and automatically keeps track of your postage costs. Your business could save considerable employee and transportation costs with this method.
If you prefer not to rent or buy a postage meter, consider using the services of one of our advertisers, Stamps.com. For less than $20 a month you can use your own computer printer to print envelopes, labels and custom stamps with USPS approved postage.
Obtain a postal scale. The USPS has varying rates for different weights and mail classes, so you can save considerable time and excessive postage by accurately calculating your postage ahead of time and arranging a pickup.
With little hunting, you can obtain stamps at below face value. By buying bulk quantities at discount or purchasing older denominated stamps sold in lots, you can combine these stamps to equal the prevailing postage rate. Click on one of our advertiser’s links for auctions and collections of older denominated stamps sold as discounted lots.
Purchase some Forever Stamps currently on sale for $0.41. These stamps will be valid regardless of future postal price increases, thereby eliminating the need for supplemental stamps. If you put out a newsletter, or any annual or semi-annual report, birthday or Christmas card, consider buying a few extra Forever Stamps. Remember, you may not have a 5-year supply of Christmas cards in hand, but you can always affix a Forever Stamp to a standard envelope and store it away for use later.

Well, those are all clever ways to save on postage…but guess what? I’ve been using good old-fashioned email for years, and what does it cost? Big fat goose egg! $0! Zilch! Nada!
So I don’t know what this newfangled “postage” thing is you’re talking about…but I’m not going to give anyone $0.41 to send a message when email is free.
Geez, kids today. What’ll they come up with next?

Sometimes you just cannot avoid sending someone a letter. To send a letter of condolence by email would be extremely tacky. Some businesses also realize that a letter can be more effective than an email. I know I’m more inclined to open a letter than with a typical spam email. There is still a place in this world for mailing an old-fashioned letter.

This is fantastic. My Mom only does letters and knows nothing of computers and believes a letter should be mailed and not e-mailed. She will love this. Just wish I knew about it before stamps went to 41 cents.

I will tell my Mom about the Forever Stamp!
Sending cards (when needed) and some bills you cannot do by e-mail. US Mail is still they way to go. My Mom loves and looks forward to getting her mail by the mailbox.
