Forever Good
The Forever Stamp went on sale on April 12th, and sales were reported as being lukewarm in most areas. This historic occasion was perhaps overshadowed by other news stories dominating the press.
Will you be stocking up on Forever Stamps? Legislation enacted last year will tie first-class postage rates to the consumer price index. Many believe this will be the go ahead for annual price adjustments, perhaps even semi-annual. Is this the beginning of the end for first-class mail or will we begin to see the cost of mailing a letter outpace inflation?
Remember, on May 14th the price for a first-class stamp will increase to $0.41. If you have some $0.39 stamps at home, you will need to purchase a block of those infamous $0.02 stamps. However, with a Forever Stamp in your possession you will never have to worry about rate increases again. These things are good forever!
